Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my contribution to this week's DPW's The Simplify Cute Challenge posted by Carol Marine.
Her instructions basically were to simplify a way too busy background. Then she said: "Feel free to change anything, crop, whatever. Have fun!"
So that's what I did..."have fun"!
I loved trying to paint the effect of the bright sun light on the girl.
Not exactly Vermeer's Girl With A Pearl... but Girl With A Pink Barrette was loads of fun to paint.

you did a fantastic job---she looks cute all right! It's a small surface to me...you really know how to paint on a 5x7!
ReplyDeleteI love the serious little face, Dean! A young Rene Zellweger! And your cup of chocolate is so perfect and three-dimensional!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celeste!
ReplyDeleteI've been doing 5x7's so long, I'd probably panic on a 9x12...Lol!
But seriously, on rare occasions I will do a large commission...and it does seem strange.
Marie...Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, she does resemble Rene Z.
She's beautiful, Deano! You really captured the beauty of her youth. I wish I could do that.
ReplyDeleteI love the emphasis on the barrette, it makes her hair glow even more. And I wish I could get the same perfection on the sun/shade parts of her face! Great job Deano.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous depth you've captured in her hair, Dean! Amazing job, but then that is the Deano way!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous little girl...you did a wonderful job with this painting, Dean!!
