Fred And Ginger-Beijing Ballroom Dancers

Close ups

Acrylic on Canson coldpress watercolor pad. Approx. 10x12 in

Here's Astaire and Rogers doing their thing in Beijing.

The acrylic is applied thinly in layers, like watercolor.
This is my attempt at the Ted Nutall technique. I came across his site and was impressed with his paintings. I think I could use a large dose of patience when attempting his great style.

I painted this as the last painting for The Flying Moleskin project. This is going to Vern Schwarz, a very accomplished artist with whom I have had many email conversations. He is an all around great fellow and I'm proud to call him a friend.
Yes, sadly, this is the last one and finishes TFM project. All in all it has been a wonderful experience conspiring and transpiring with a great bunch of artists! I love ya all!

Get ready, Vern...This is heading home to you!

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  1. Just wonderful Dean, your drawing skills are excellent and I really like the look of this.

  2. Hey Dean, I know a couple of artists who had the great fortune to take a workshop with Ted Nuttal...they still talk about it. Great job on these dancers...I see the Nuttal influence for sure. Nicely done!!

  3. So beautiful, Dean! Methinks there is nothing you can't do. I really love this and am quite envious of Vern!

  4. Wonderful subject matter Dean. Love the way you've rendered them.

  5. I like the direction this image has. A different technique for you and one that works!

  6. Love the looseness of this. Hope you do more of this style.

  7. How beautiful and refreshing this piece is. I love how it wants to transport, involve and take you into the dance with them. Even though they are serious it is such an uplifting piece full of hope and joy. I love it.

  8. I loved the rhythm of dance that is felt here, the style is great and I can see the amount of patience you have displayed here.

  9. hi dean, i just want to say, wonderful work.its difrent, the dance movement.great.take care ben.
