Peaceful Gaze

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is for the weekly WDE at Wet Canvas. Dewi was the host and this portrait is from a photo of her beautiful friend, Ella.

I had to really fight my natural inclination to paint one of the animals this week.
I elected to go for what is for me a difficult subject...the human animal. In this case, the lovely Ella.

I tried to stay relatively loose and push the color. Maybe I wasn't entirely successful in that goal.
Thanks for looking. And your comments are always welcome!

Available...Contact me at kkayangel2(at) if interested in purchasing.

Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

  1. The work is as lovely as the model herself.. the gaze has a certain kind of detachment from the surroundings..she reminded me of my long last friend Sabina.

  2. I enjoyed your
    work very much

  3. Thank you, Padmaja and Skizo! I truly appreciate your stopping in and the comments.

  4. Altho not your forte' I think you've done a wonderful job on Ella.

  5. Dean, I saw this image on WC and thought whoa...what a pretty girl--you did her justice. This looks exactly like her and you caught her "poise" and grace.

  6. I have been on my way to you when I noticed you leaving ME a comment! Thank you, Dean. Well done on this portrait that has a lot of character!

  7. This is quite lovely, Dean. The rich, warm colors set her beauty off perfectly.

  8. My gosh Dean, this is beautiful! What a lovely face and you've made her glow.

Thank you for your kind words on my blog - I've been absent again!

  9. Très beau regard dans ce magnifique portrait... quel profondeur!

  10. This one works on so many levels Dean...I would say that you were very successful!
