Thankful (Happy Thanksgiving)
Oil on a 7X5 hardboard. To quote my chicken: " I'm thankful I ain't a turkey!" Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
This is my contribution to the WDE at Wet Canvas. The reference photo was graciously provided by Gail.
I reverted back to my favorite thing...pre toning the board with red acrylic. I like how it peeks through and activates the painting. Hope you all like it!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Deano! Love this chicken. I can almost hear it scratching as it walks along the grass.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Deano! Love your chicken...great colors and brushstrokes!
ReplyDeleteThis Chicken is great. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThe color of the chicken's feathers is wonderful. Yes Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Dean.
ReplyDeleteI do love the red showing through. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
ReplyDeleteFantastica gallina! :)
ReplyDeleteYour brushstrokes are excellent! I love how you've suggested the feathers and grass with the directionality and width of the strokes. The red peaking thru helps the bird to pop and the greens to glow. Hmmm... suddenly I'm thinking chicken might be a good main course while I watch Dallas play football this upcoming thursday... not sure why... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thanksgiving!
-Don
Great painting Dean - when you'd written 'Happy Thanksgiving' in your title, I thought, oh no, that chicken's for the chop. I'm so glad he's not! Hope you and all my American friends have a great Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI must say, Dean, that I really like the look in this guy's eye! Turkey indeed!! What a great piece, as usual!
ReplyDeleteOne of these days, I'm gonna get brave and do a knife painting. I almost bought a set today, but didn't. You are very inspiring though!eal

ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Deano and God's blessings on you and yours. Love your chicken. I look at our chickens and think..."hmmm, wonder if they would make a good subject for a painting." Here proves they do. I love your brushwork and your painterly style on this piece.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Deano! Love this chicken painting. The festive colors are perfect for the festive season. I have enjoyed looking at alot of your work. Wonderful!!!! Thank you for the kind comment on my work. Enjoyed reading the Scripture verses. Very uplifting!!! Love in Christ, Connie
ReplyDeleteYour hen is lovely - so painterly and natural all at once.
ReplyDeleteHad to come over and visit. You continue to post the most wonderful things... love the shopping piece and the "orange" ha ha tabby.
And it's onward to the new year...
I love under painting. It really adds a dimension to the final work by setting off the colors over it.
