Bright and Breezy

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
Here's a slight departure for me. I really do enjoy this style of painting. It's high key, loose, and free spirited. It's fun to kick your shoes off (figuratively speaking :) and play in the color!

The Hypnotist

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This painting is based on a photo graciously provided by Karen for the WDE on Wet Canvas.
That fur pattern was very challenging! Just did the best I could.

This cat appears to be saying," You are getting very sleepy...you are now under my power."
Meanwhile the little sparrow is chirping, "Coffee! Coffee!" at the top of his lungs!

A Companion of Diana

Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
This is my attempt at Karin Jurick's DSFDF.This marble sculpture represents one of the nymphs who attended the hunt-goddess Diana... Jean-Louis Lemoyne (artist)
French, 1666 - 1755
I dreaded starting this one- but once I started (like a good book), I couldn't put it down.

I'm generally happy with the light in this painting...and I especially like how the horse's head turned out. Hope you enjoy the painting.

Daffodils

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
Flowers are harder than I first imagine them to be. But I'm used to that by now. Gotta remember to break out of the mindset of "I'm painting a flower"...just paint color patches, negative shapes, values...and hopefully a flower will emerge! Speaking of that, they're beginning to emerge in my yard from the cool ground of Spring! Ah..my favorite season...

The image for this painting was graciously supplied by Elaine for the WDE on Wet Canvas! That site is a super place for artists of all skill levels to congregate, learn share, and have a great time!

Happy Easter

This painting was first posted on my humble blog on Dec.11,'06 under the title "Praying Soldier".

I have put it up once again in the spirit of Christianity on this day of days.
Please use it as a gentle reminder to look beyond the decorated eggs...marshmallow peeps...and the chocolate bunnies. All of which are fun and a special delight to our children and the child within us.

But the true meaning of this day is the suffering which was willingly endured so that we could all be forgiven. Through His sacrifice and resurrection we are guaranteed eternal life. This perfect life which He promised appeals to the child within us...because we are indeed His children.

Luke 20:36
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

This is painted from an image supplied by Dominic for the WDE at Wet Canvas.
I just wanted to see if I could pull off the texture of the wool. I may not have completely succeeded, but then, this whole painting thing is a learning experience.

Father, Forgive Them

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
I have been wanting to do a painting to commemorate Easter for about the last five years-and for some reason or another, the date has always passed with no painting...much to my regret. Well, I'm happy to say that I made it this year with some time to spare.

I started this painting without much pre planning. Each element was added as a separate, last minute,after-thought ...the light halo glow...the crown of thorns...the stream of blood... the cross against the foreboding sky.

Almost as if it painted itself, as they say. Psssst... Between you and me, I believe that sometimes He takes a hand in it. He paints it...I just hold the brush. I call it PUI..."painting under the influence".

Even the photographing and editing went smoother and easier than any I have done since I've been doing this internet thing...around 5 years!

I'm going to shut up, and just say that I'm happy with how it turned out!
