Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
Flowers are harder than I first imagine them to be. But I'm used to that by now. Gotta remember to break out of the mindset of "I'm painting a flower"...just paint color patches, negative shapes, values...and hopefully a flower will emerge! Speaking of that, they're beginning to emerge in my yard from the cool ground of Spring! Ah..my favorite season...

Oh so pretty... You did a terrific job. Another thing I don't paint because I'm not there yet in terms of where I want to be.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your advice Dean. I'll let everyone know how this turns out. HuGS!
Very impressive, I've never tried flowers, they look quite complicated so well done
ReplyDeleteDean, So very lovely. You hit the values and the strokes so very nicely...I love this one!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful springtime painting. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful, Dean. Wonderful composition and a really nice sense of depth. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYea! Joyous Spring! These are beautiful. They're a tough flower to get dimensional, and you've painted them beautifully, Dean.
ReplyDeleteThese daffodils are really well done Dean. I like the hard and soft edges a lot. That bit of yellow reflected light on the right hand flower makes it for me.
ReplyDeleteah , yes..the daffodil. Nicely done in the simple motif and gentility of the strokes and subtle dimension.
ReplyDeleteYou did well, they are more complex than you first assume.
They are simply fresh and you did and amazing work!

ReplyDeleteDean, such a delicate, soft palette and love the way you painted the daffodils which I think are a hard flower to paint.
ReplyDeleteWell done Dean, lovely colours, I love Spring too!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely Dean. I'm with you, spring is my favorite time of the year.
ReplyDeleteAnd a lovely flower it is!!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your shading in this piece.
Couldn't agree with you more...flowers are very hard to paint, but you did a fantastic job! These are gorgeous! Love the Lilac/blue with the creamy Yellow.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a wonderful job on this. It is so true about the mindset. Just need to remember that it is just pieces of paint, negative shapes, values before it ever becomes a flower. Thanks : )
ReplyDeleteDean I really love this. I have a hard time with flowers - I'll have to keep your suggestion in mind next time I try painting flowers.
ReplyDeleteStuunig... nice sence of depth.
