The Explorers

Acrylic on 7x5 hardboard.

Kids having a load of fun in the sun...what a warm picture...a pleasant contrast to the winter weather we're involved in.

I first sketched the scene in ink using a Pitt Artists Pen. Then I applied loose, watery washes of color. I kept going back in with thicker, opaque acrylics to bring it to a finish. I really like this approach on the smooth hardboard.

The photo from which this painting was done was supplied by Briar for this week's WDE.

  1. I love this, especially the outlining and the layered color. Beautiful job. Also great job on your KJ portrait!

  5. Wow Dean, I like this. Something fun and different, isn't that what makes art exciting. I keep watching for your photo to appear on Karin's site, I want to see who I have been talking to all this time. That is assuming it looks anything like you, lol.

  6. Hi, Barb...Glad you like the acrylic. It was an enjoyable and freeing approach. I may do more soon.
I keep watching for my portrait to appear also. Just watch for the guy who strongly resembles a combination of G. Clooney, E. Presley, and R. Redford....age them by about 80 years and imagine them making brainless, goofy eyes over the rims of their glasses...that'll pretty much be me. ;)
