Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Sharron was the gracious hostess who supplied all the great reference photos. Thanks, Sharron !
The gulls in the ref photo looked as if they were getting some loud opinion across.
I'm familiar with this reference. I painted it in April of 2010. Thought it would be fun to try it once again.
My, my...don't they look vocal???
The paint ranges from super thin to very thick for variation and interest.
C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

Proverbs 12::22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Love this, Dean - wonderful composition and color!! And they do look like a raucous pair. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathryn! Glad you think the composition works. Loved the boots on your blog!
DeleteI really like these guys! At first I was thinking they were laughing, but then I read the verse you put with it, and thought, yep they are liars! Great job with the shadows and I love the thick paint!
ReplyDeleteyes...I can hear them! This is outstanding. I used to live in Florida--I love the sound of screeching sea gulls. Beautifully painted.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, Dean! The seagulls always attract my attention and yours even more so!
ReplyDeletelovely one :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they are making fun of anyone? Great painting!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colored outline. This is a really neat design too.
ReplyDeleteYou usually do a patriotic painting for Memorial Day. I loved last years so am looking forward to this one.
