Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Scatty was the gracious hostess who supplied all the great reference photos.
Just couldn't pass up the white cow! I love pushing the color all over the place on a white subject and the lighting on this cow was perfect.
This is oil on a 7x5 hardboard. All by brush....no knife this time.

Dean, your candy-colored cow is really a beauty! I love the "candy colors", and the way you have highlighted her - even the eyelashes of her left eye. Bravo for your C.C.C. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathryn! The eyelash was a last minute decision...I'm glad I put it in. Thanks for mentioning it.

DeleteGood morning Dean!... Your "Candy"... is just a dandy and you have captured that natural and observable cow essence... of curiosity and trust!
ReplyDeleteCould be any one of the countless gals who always run up to join me when painting outdoors... "fence side" to see what I'm doin'... on their turf!
A gem Dean!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilda! I have tried to push color many times before, But I believe this one stands out a little due to the fact of the higher chroma.

There is an artist who shows in Santa Fe who I always go and see. She paints fabulous light effects too. Check her out at http://cherichristensen.com/ I think you will enjoy her work.
Being a city girl, I'm not sure why I like cow paintings so much, but I do. I especially like this one with the glowing colors that you used.
ReplyDeleteWhat gentle colours! A lovely painting, Dean. Yes, I must support your verse: One knowest not what a day may bring forth.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Dean.
