In The Wind-Horses

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Mo was the great hostess. Thanks for the terrific reference photos.

I liked the look/possibilities of the horses in a reference photo.
Once again, I used the palette knife for this. More and more I find the palette knife to be very freeing from the compulsion for detail. The knife is a terrific tool to inject creative expressiveness into a painting. Confession...I did use a brush for eyes, and nostrils. It was great fun.
Thanks for looking!

Luke 18:14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

  1. wow...great work with a palette knife! It amazes me that you get so much information on a 5x7!

  2. This is beautiful Dean. You have captured the motion so perfectly with those flying manes that I can almost hear their pounding hooves.

  3. LOVE this painting, Dean! So awesome!
