San Fran Rooftops

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

This painting is my submission to Karin Jurick's DSFDF.

The hard, straight lines of cityscapes have made me shy away from this genre. For this challenge I decided to really loosen up-go with invented color-to use many small dabs of paint similar to a rough pointillism. I wanted to get away from the up-tight "painting within the lines" feel.
It was a fun challenge...although intimidating at first.

  1. LOL - I think I qualify as "up-tight" along with all my paintings! But I do love what you've done to add texture to the background AND foreground - It adds a lot of interest to this piece!

  11. Love all those spots of color in the sky and the addition of those dark, spooky buildings in the back with the orange lights in the windows. A nod to Halloween??? Really great!
