The Quartet...Pear-A-Tone Singer
Golden Open Acrylics on 5x7 hardboard.
These pears reminded me of performers due to their positioning and dramatic stage lighting. The one in front must be the "pear-a-tone" being featured in this number ;).
This is my contribution to the WDE at Wet Canvas. Kay graciously supplied the photos to choose from.
I first coated the support with black gesso. I then used a white Prismacolor pencil to sketch in the placement of the pears.
I'm still having a time trying to achieve the brushstrokes like I can get with oils. But this came out better than my previous attempts with the open acrylics. Maybe I'll catch on after a few more.

I'm loving this Dean! Your strokes are music to my eyes!!
ReplyDeleteI am not of any help when it comes to strokes, but I can tell you that this looks super to me.
ReplyDeleteDelicious, Dean! I love the mottled look. Sooooooo good!
ReplyDeleteYou can almost touch them, want to grab one and eat :-) Light and shadow are perfectly painted in my eyes! Thank you Dean :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice job with great technique, Dean. I love how you work the light in all of your pieces. The play of light and the flaws that always come with pears are so marvelously done!
ReplyDeleteHi Dean, I really like your pear painting, the placement of the pears and all of your brushstrokes. Acrylics, wow. I am impressed, you aren't going to give up the oils are you?
ReplyDeleteWonderful Dean, I like how you did these pears
ReplyDeleteVery nice color, Dean. They look great.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this one. You should submit it to Regina's website - it has nothing but pears.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Simplicity and not one line too many. The bird's eye view works very well!
ReplyDeleteThanks to you and these amazing paintings of yours Dean, I am now hooked on black gesso! Pear-a-tone hm? Very deep!
ReplyDeleteGreat painting Dean! I think these dark gesso beginnings have become your signature now. I tried starting with dark supports, but I feel like I do better when I start out light, and add the color. It's so interesting to me, to see you doing it the other way around.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Dean, the lighting is great
ReplyDeleteThank you, Saundra..."music to my eyes"...I like that! Lol!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maria! I appreciate the comment.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gwen...glad you like it. I sure made a lot of trips back and forth between colors to get those mottles.
ReplyDeleteHi, Mi...Thanks for your generous compliment! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Autumn...I deeply appreciate your kind observations!
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb...thanks for your comments...No, I'm not quitting on the oils! I have worked in the standard acrylics before...I just had to see what all the shouting was about with the Golden Opens.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nora and Becky...I really appreciate your stopping in and taking time to comment!
