Counting Sheep-Wolf

 Close ups

Acrylic on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Lin graciously hosted this week and provided a bunch of great photos!  Lin issued the challenge to include one of the favorite things you love to do in recognition of Valentine's Day.
The sleeping wolf reminded me of one of my newest favorite things...sleeping .

I had found some super examples of flowing active colors on the net. He was using watercolor. I tried to emulate the style in acrylic on canvas panel...and I didn't come too close to what was in my mind's eye.

This is acrylic on a 5x7 canvas panel. The acrylics were applied thinly to encourage colorful blending. I think the controlling part of my mind stepped in.  Still, there are some things I think were successful.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting!

  2. This is yet another that is amongst my favorites, Dean. I love that watercolory looking background (so to my mind, you succeeded beautifully).

Have I told you that my artist daughter loves the painting of the Boxer?

  3. Good morning Dean!... I think that winter has most people on the ropes... even the woodchuck weather prophet retreated for another six weeks of ZZZZ's! HAHA! Retired.... aren't we???... Sort of hibernating.... coming out to play on those sunny occasions!

Another dynamic composition... fortified by a "natural feel and enough rich colour and texture to keep attention.

Love the title too Dean. You always manage to couple the painting and thought processes to add that extra touch of "Deano" flavour - humour!

    Kepp smilin'!

    Good Painting,.... and snoozin'
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  5. You really are a specialist with animals. My eye keeps admiring the skill used to do his right ear - it is especially wonderful. The colors are pretty and you have achieved a soft, fluid appearance which captured the wolf looking quite approachable.
I envy you taking naps. My hubby does too, but if I do then I cannot sleep at night.

I really do appreciate knowing which parts appealed to you (or which ones didn't). I love the insight!
