Statue Admirer-Pigeon

 Close ups

Standard acrylic on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Oty was the gracious hostess.

Although these birds are scorned as a pest, I can't help but to admire the feather markings and shiny iridescent heads of pigeons. They are really a beautiful bird.

This is standard acrylic on 7x5 canvas panel. Basically the same process as the previous two weeks. Many layers of thinned acrylic over textured gesso.
I added a touch of black pen and colored pencil just to "kick up" a few spots.

C&C welcome. Thanks for commenting!

  1. Hi there Dean ... I share your feelings about rock doves... aka pigeons! Pests in some quarters... beautiful... gentle creatures lovely to look at and listen to in my own mind!

They join my other favourite pest... the much maligned dandelion. They bother no anyone except those who choose to groom and cultivate everything they come into contact with. Pests... are those people!

I think that I might have been a pigeon or a dandelion in another plane of existence. I wonder?..... HA HA!!!

A really accurate portrayal... head cocked... eye contact... all that's missing is the strut! HA HA!!! A gem Dean!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

    1. Hi, Bruce....Squirrels, blue jays, crows...
on and on the list of pests goes.
Folks complain, and I understand why.
But they are all treasures to an artist's keen eye.

      Not bad, eh? Author: Me!!
