The Heartthrob-Scarlet Macaw

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Dewi was the gracious hostess.

I've painted this scarlet macaw a number of times...just can't resist! Here, he looks very confident and in love with himself...Lol!

This is oil on a 7x5 canvas panel. I first toned the panel with a red for a mid value starting point. That allows me to paint up or down in value and have something to judge it against. Works pretty well.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting!

  3. Good wintry morning to you Dean!... What a lovely warm and bright wake up this colourful avian portrait provides!

As always... you have captured the cocky, watchful and expressive qualities which endears the macaw to countless admirers. It even offers the red warning: "Do not approach too closely Pal... I bite>! HA HA!! A gem Dean!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  8. Your Macaw paintings are getting better and better Dean. i wish i was rich enough to offer you what you're worth on pet portraits of my flock (but continue working on them myself since i have 10) but my housemates and i agree you are welcome to visit mine or request specific bird-type pics anytime you'd like if you feel it would help you with your work! Dewi must have just finished his/her breakfast or supper and is settling into a snooze. The eye and around the eye is perfect.
