Safe Harbor-Calf and Cow

Close up

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Christine was the gracious hostess.

I liked the attitude of the little one feeling safety behind Mama!
I first toned the panel with red acrylic. Then I pushed the color and applied the paint thickly in select places. This is all brush..no painting knife.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

  1. Good morning Dean. This is a beautiful painting of Mamma and the Calf, both the brush work and color. What size is it?

    1. Hi Sherry...It gives the calf a very cautious look doesn't it? That appealed to me.

  4. Good afternoon Dean!... A wonderful composition... using those horns... draws the viewer's eyes right up to the richly coloured face and head. The ears of the calf drive the eyes right back to the mother. A wonderfully rivoting compositional device.

A gem Sir! A lot said... in such a small space!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce
