How The Helican-Pelican

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The host, Beth, provided the photos.

I picked the pelican, even though I think it will be a very popular choice this week.

It brought to mind this poem:
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week,
But I’m darned if I see how the helican.

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

  1. I feel it is a masterpiece from you,,there is an abstract quality attached to the composition, the dark strokes under the wings create a movement and I just love the sunset energy I feel here!

  3. I love that little poem, Dean! Perfect! The blurred edges of the wings show beautifully that this guy is in flight! As always, your palette is exquisite too!

  5. Hi, Dean. The pelican is the state bird of Louisiana. What a comical arrangement of parts! He seems a little prehistoric to me. Your painting is wonderful. How do they get all that arrangement into the air?
    Yes! God is faithful.
