Look Ma! No Brushes!-Blue Heron

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The host, EP, provided the photos.

As host this week, EP issued a challenge to paint using a palette knife.
I had been contemplating making a palette knife painting for YEARS. I would often apply paint with a knife to portions of my work.Link
But this is my first ever 100% knife painting, Thanks to you, EP!
I don't know how successful it is, but the point is, I finally did it!

Thanks for looking!

I would very much like to add that Don Micheal, Jr. has been my inspiration in the unique world of palette knife painting. I have followed his wonderful work for several years. Please do yourself a favor and check him our HERE.

  1. Yes! You did it. Looks very believable, if you know what I mean.

  2. Another gorgeous painting, Dean. That sunrise/sunset (depending on which direction you are looking, I guess!) is amazing and the heron is a stunner too. Love the trees as well...

  6. You did a wonderful job with the palette knife. I'm addicted to the knife. It's hard for me to go back to brushes when I work in oils now. You should do more of these. You're a natural.
