Apples And Orange

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jean was the gracious hostess.

I chose the still life because I felt this would be a good subject to continue with the thick, painting knife, technique I used last week.
First I used brush, then the paint shaper, then the painting knife.
I like the active looking surface this gives a painting. Plenty to look at.
I'm not really adept at this style of painting, but I think it would have great possibilities with practice.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting!

Matthew 9: 12      On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

  2. Good Morning Dean!... You really "nailed" this one my Friend! Your composition exudes such an inviting feel... I could just jump right into peeling that orange!Plump and juicy!

As for your ability with the knife? This tool takes your painting to a new level... and really revives and breathes life into what was before a mediocre... no... a predictable finish! Those small and selective flourishes really add visual interest and strength Dean!

A gem! A "meal" can be eaten with a knife and not always with a fork... if used carefully... with extra care and planning! HA HA! You've proven it here!

Good Painting!... and knifing in 2013 Dean!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

    1. Your well chosen words always make my day, Bruce!

Eating with a knife can at times be pretty trying...especially when the peas keep rolling off...Lol!

I'm glad you like the knife flourishes. I love the little surprises that can happen.

  3. Dean, the texture is amazing and lends perfectly to a rustic sense that I get from the composition itself. Of course, there isn't much you haven't painted that I haven't loved.
