Wearin' Of The Green-African Gray Parrot

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Close ups

Acrylic on 6x6 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Valri was the gracious hostess. Thanks for the terrific reference photos.

Valri challenged us to put something of Patty's Day into our paintings. So I did this African Gray, named Smokey Joe, and created a shamrock design as background. Plus a little green color into the plumage...thus, wearin' of the green.

This is standard fast drying acrylic. I decided it was easier to render all the variations of gray with washes rather than the thicker approach with Golden Opens.

John 14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Good 'N' Gooey-Jelly Donut

Close ups

Acrylic on 6X6 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to The Donut Challenge at DPW posted by Kelley MacDonald.
A rather simple challenge was issued: "Paint your bad donut love!"

My favorite fruit..Lol! The raspberry filled donut!

I painted this using Golden Open Acrylics. It's really one of the first few times I've ever used them. I'm used to the fast drying kind. It's strange, but to me this felt like a combination of similarities of oil and standard acrylic yet different. The creamy texture of the paint and accelerated drying time were both satisfying and disturbing at once. It will just take some getting used to.

John 12:35 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.

Health Food-Still Life

Close ups

Oil on 6x6 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to The Paint it Before You Eat it Challenge at DPW posted by Carol Marine. Carol challenged us to paint colorful Valentine treats.

Yeah...yeah...I know my title for this piece is "Health Food"...which normally means something like celery or an apple. But this is mental health food! Happy, happy...yum, yums!

I painted this over a coat of black gesso! One of my favorite tactics...A fun way to paint!

Center Stage

Close ups.

Oil on hardboard.

This is my submission to Karin Jurick's latest DSFDF. I set myself the task to dramatize the lighting. I wanted to almost show the center cupcake taking a bow in the spotlight of some fantasy play in a bakery window. Strange, eh? Lol.

Jelly Filled Dough Nut

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.

How about a jelly filled dough nut? No need for guilt feelings with this one because there are no calories. It's guaranteed not to spoil. It will be there day after day for your enjoyment. It was painted with a painting knife and a brush. The paint is generously lathered on like frosting. The textured surface is very nice!
