Banty Rooster Revisited

Close ups

Acrylic on 7x5 hardboard.

This painting was posted on Sept. 12. I've been looking it over and wondering what sort of changes can I do to this to make it more interesting. Since it is acrylic, I say why not play with it? I changed the lighting on the rooster...added a little stronger chroma in spots...and added a few color surprises.
Though it wasn't changed in any major way, I kinda like the small improvements.

Turkey Trot

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

Here's my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The photo was provided by Gail.

I first covered the board with black gesso. Love that stuff!

I recall doing this same ref on April 25, 2008. I also believe it was when Gail was hosting. So, I thought I might do better the second time around. Don't know if I did but it was fun doing this one again.

With Thanksgiving a short time away I imagined these wise birds as doing some training in jogging and evasive tactics.

Cutting Horse Commission

Close ups

Acrylic on 9x12 hardboard.

A super nice lady in Texas, who bought "Bustin' Loose," (which was posted Aug.21) wanted a painting done of a friend riding a cutting horse. I Googled "cutting horse". They are amazing!
Any how, back to the subject of painting. She wanted it done in the same style as "Bustin' Loose".
It was work to achieve the same look and feel as "B L". I used layers of acrylic washes on the smooth surface of the hardboard. I aim to please.
She said she loves it....I'm happy!

Eastern Bluebird-Copy

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

Here's another copy! A lovely lady by in NH spotted this bluebird in a post from March 2, 2010. It was already sold...so I made her a copy. Of course it is not an exact copy (an impossibility for me)...so it is a one of a kind unique piece of art.
I sent her an image of it--she was thrilled!...Which thrilled me. It will be shipped soon.

Colorful

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my submission to WDE on Wet Canvas. The reference photo was provided by Lin. Thanks, Lin! Her cat's name is Dave!

I first toned the gessoed board with a red color. I tried to get inventive and introduce blue color to excite the eye. I like unexpected colors (esp. blue) in a painting.

Windows-Rousillon, France...Copy

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.

A lovely lady emailed me wanting a copy of a previous painting which had been sold. She wanted it as an anniversary gift for her daughter and son in law who had just returned from France.

So that's what this is. A copy of a painting I had posted on April 24, 2010. It is by no means an exact copy ( that's way beyond my humble capabilities). So it is a one of a kind, unique piece of art.

The daughter emailed me saying they loved it! Absolutely made my day!

Banty Rooster

Close ups

Acrylic on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.

The surface is so smooth it's fun to see the thinned acrylic puddle and slide all over it. When it started losing it's slipperiness, I sprayed it with clear acrylic gloss coat...and here we go again! I also used my trusty Faber Castell Pitt Pen.

Loved this little bantam's fearless attitude. Looks like he's gonna shout "I am the GREATEST" ala Ali.

The image for this painting was supplied by Stoney for this week's WDE at Wet Canvas.

Through Him

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is the same figure from Aug. 16 and 18. Actually it's Diane Keaton from the 1981 movie, "Reds". So this is the third in a series.

As with the Aug. 18th painting, I felt something spiritual about the look of this one. As if a communication were happening.

Unending

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my contribution to WDE this week. Kathy was the hostess and supplied some great reference photos...Thanks, Kathy!

I knew I had to try this one from the moment I first saw it. Love...faith...positive vibes...all with the ocean as a backdrop signifying depth and timelessness. Unending.

Well, enough of that. This is oil on a 7x5 hardboard that was first coated with black gesso. I like how the black primer helps me to judge colors.

Outside My Window

Close up
This is acrylic in Irit's moleskin. I also tossed in a little line work in ink. Size: Approx. 8 1/4" x 11 3/4".

Irit chose local places as her theme. I must confess my favorite local places are my back yard and my house. There I feel most comfortable and connected to art work.
This spring I bought a camera with a great zoom capability. Birds , unsuspecting people and their pets are all fair game to the lens. This fella was walking his mini pinscher across the street outside my kitchen window.

I hope you like it, Irit!

The year is really flying by...And speaking of flying-- there are only a few Flying Moleskin books left to do. It's been quite a journey! Get ready for some moleskins, Vern, my friend.
