In my previous post I said I rarely do cityscapes. Well, dang!...here's another one!!
.This was originally painted for the Street View Challenge of Aug. 15th. I changed it considerably by adding more lights and rainy reflections. Below is my original painting from that challenge.

This is from a red morning I saw last week...and sure enough, the weather got rough.
The colors are amazing in the morning and evening skies. God's palette is beyond matching.

Laurel and Hardy! Just saying it makes me smile!
A flood of side splitting predicaments and lines are stored carefully away into my library of happy memories. Thank you Stan and Ollie!                                 

I used thinned acrylics much like watercolor washes. I also used a Tombow pen....It makes beautiful graded washes when water is added.

A lot of wet into wet color blending....then a few thick impasto bits for punctuation!

She stated that  the challenge is the foreshortened bodies (and the complete lack of sun).

I thought of a few titles that made me chuckle, but, thankfully, discretion won out. :)

This is by painting knife. I think I let a bit more sun in than I should have..but old habits are hard to break.

Those directions were simple enough...even for a birdbrain like me.

I really like the brash blue jay! He sounds off at the slightest disturbance which warns all the critters within earshot to be on the lookout. Many folks hate his noisy behavior and the threat he sometimes poses to other birds. But I love the color and the bluejay is only doing what God designed it to do.

The title could very well be the burning question in many a little nite lite's mind.

I wanted to do this painting Fast and Loose! Something really desirable in paintings....not so much in significant others...Lol.
So I went with large brush..generous paint. Keep it moving. If I started to slow down to nit-pick at details I forced myself to move on!!
I like the result. Hope you do too!

Carol snapped this photo on a recent trip to San Francisco. Our challenge was to paint our version of it or use our own photo.

I have always felt somewhat intimidated by cityscapes with all the straight lines and details. On the other hand, the photo opened a great deal of opportunity to crop, change, and interpret. And that's always a lot of fun! So thanks, once more, Carol for a great challenge!

Box Of Chocolates-Water Lily

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Ros was the hostess who supplied this great reference photo!

I was in the mood to use the painting knife for an impressionistic painting.
So, I painted my impression of the water lily. I was trying to manipulate thick paint until it resembled what I was after. Instead of being in control of the paint and making it take on a preconceived appearance, I watched the paint perform (or do its' own thing) under the guidance of the knife. It's like a box of chocolates...ya never know what you're gonna get. This is a FUN way to paint!!
Must confess, I'm still under the influence of Julie Ford Oliver and her great fracturing technique.

My usual tendency is to tighten up and paint everything realistically- straight edges and all- when doing subjects such as vehicles, architecture, etc. So I had to remind myself to loosen up with this one.

a MAZING Petals

This is my contribution to The Rose Challenge at DPW posted by the one and only Carol Marine.
The challenge was to simply paint a rose in close up. And quite a challenge it was.

So beautiful to look at. So sweet to smell. So DIFFICULT to paint!!
The many convolutions of a rose's petals turns into a maze which will in turn twist my point of reference. Was I painting here or there??
Roses are indeed a real challenge for me. ( The problem may well be that I tighten up and attempt a flower portrait instead of a nice loose, painterly, floral.)
