Whatever Floats Your Boat

Close ups.

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my latest submission to Karin Jurick's DSFDF. I found the colors in the reference photo to be interesting. The main attraction for me was the green boat against the red swim suit...all of which is surrounded by subdued, grayed, blues. I had some fun playing in those waves. Hope you enjoy it!

Roosters/chickens were really high on my list a few years ago...it's good to revisit them again. The image for this painting was supplied by Kay for the WDE at Wet Canvas.

Cow-Soulful Eyes

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
I have missed doing one of my favorite subjects to paint. I used to do quite a few of these a while back. Anyhow, here she is in all her her soulful eyed glory.

Once again, I toned the board with red acrylic and allowed it to peek through my brushstrokes.
Hope y'all like it!

Veggies

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
Here is my submission for the latest DSFDF.
I first toned the support with subdued red acrylic. This step really helps to unify and harmonize the surface. I have used this procedure for a number of years and keep coming back to it.
Once again, I forced myself to be more generous with the paint- pick it up on the edge of the brush- apply it with a touch- go back for more...none of that scrubbing it on to stretch it.

Azaleas

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
These are some of my azaleas from the front yard. Each year I look forward to their blooming. They have absolutely beautiful color, but alas, they only hang around in all their glory for about a week. Then they are but a memory until next year. The anticipation is more than the realization. Note the scripture below.
