This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Joel was the great host. Thanks for the terrific reference photos.
I chose to paint this stately dog because the coat is fascinating with all that flowing fur. I had fun laying in the impasto strokes selectively. The impasto was done with a loaded brush....Yes the brush was loaded, not me! No palette knife was used...and no doggies were harmed in the making of this painting...
Originally, I believed this was a Russian Wolfhound, and said so in my title. I corrected the title when Kathryn Ragan of Studio At The Farm came to my rescue and pointed out that it's actually an Afghan Hound. Thank you Kathryn!
