Breakfast Of Champions- Foal And Mare

 Close ups

Ink sketch toned with thinned Alizarin Crimson
Oil on 5x7 canvas board.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Lin was the gracious hostess.

I had to try the foal going for the gusto!
Spring is my favorite time of year. All the new life is a gift from God. It adds continuance and meaning.

I first toned the panel with thinned Alizarin Crimson.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

Got Milk??

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard..

My submission for this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The ref photo was supplied by Jean.
The challenge for this week was to paint using only three primary colors. I chose Ult. Blue, Yel. Ochre, and Transparent Red Iron Oxide...just.to see what might happen.

The TRIO + YO yielded a great color for the colt! I think it is more vibrant than burnt sienna, my usual choice.
But after I got the horses laid in, I realized I would have to add to my palette. The Ult. Blue and Yel. Ochre made a dull green...like spinach...not bright enough for me. So I added Cad. Yel. Med. Then, what the hey, I added Aliz. Crim. to mix in some of the darks.
Hope ya like it.
