Comfy Cat Re-Do

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
Here is a re-do. I originally posted this painting on Jan.19, '08. At the time, I was displeased with something in it...but not sure exactly what. After looking it over today, I really felt it needed more vibrant color. The original background was dark and dull. There was too much over all purple throughout the piece.
Now the background sings with vibrant complements and the lighter areas of fur have been rescued with thicker, more textured paint. Now I feel it's a lot more successful as a painting!

Comfy Cat

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
Some of the lighter lavender in the background is the acrylic which I applied to tone the canvas. I attempted to apply the paint thickly and in a single stroke in the light areas.
The reference photo for this painting was graciously supplied by Marita for the Week End Drawing Event on Wet Canvas.

    #4 Cat Commission

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel. This is the fourth of a group of four paintings on commission. They are for my good friends in Santa Barbara, CA.

I really like how the background turned out in this one. Much of it was done with a painting knife using closely related colors. Very stucco like.

    #1 Cat Commission

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. Back to the first of a group of four paintings on commission. I just had to go back in and do a little more work on the face and darken a few colors to improve the form. I now declare this one done...unless I change my mind. ;)

    Commissioned Cat #1

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. This is the first of a four painting commission. It will be for my special friends from Santa Barbara, Ca. The order consists of four mini Cat paintings. They will be given to special friends for Christmas. I might , in the ol' days, put this off until Dec...Lol. The new Dean will have this done in plenty of time for my friends!!

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. This image was graciously supplied by Mary Jane at the WDE on Wet Canvas this weekend. I used my artistic license on several areas... the main one being the eyes. I think it turned out pretty well..

    Cat-Animal Art

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
This is a painting in which I pushed the color to beautiful effect. The brush strokes are expressive and make a great textured painting. The background is a rich, red acrylic. The contrast between the acrylic and oil is a nice touch!

    Colorful Kitten

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel. This little critter was posted on March 25 titled 'Contemporary Kitten'. Today I finally decide to rework him. I really pushed the color, so I guess he's still somewhat contemporary and expressive. Anyhow, I enjoyed the journey and like where I arrived with it.
