Drip Dry-Ducklings

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel. This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Connie was the gracious  hostess.

I decided to try some ducklings this week. I came up with a new name for this painting technique...it's called Lotsa!!!

Lotsa painting knife, lotsa brush strokes, and lotsa paint!

Oil on a 5x7 canvas panel.

Here's how it started

Stepping Out-Chickens

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Oty was the gracious  hostess.

What can I say?...I can't pass up a chicken. I sometimes feel like the Colonel Sanders of the art world....I'm thinking my chicken paintings might sell a whole lot better with sides of mashed potatoes and biscuits!!

This painting was about 50/50 brushes and painting knife.

I attempted this (loosely) in the style of  that great painter, Cheri Christensen. Thanks for the tip, Julie! I really like to hop around in cyberspace and try to emulate the styles that blow my socks off...hoping some will stick. Usually it doesn't and I just wind up painting like  my ol' boring self, but with cold feet! Brrrr!
I really appreciate your comments!

Break O' Dawn-Boat

Close ups

 Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Dominic hosted.

I had to try the boat with a painting knife. This is completely by knife...no brush used. I remembered to use generous paint this time. That's not easy for me to do. At the moment, I'm satisfied with it.

Who Brought The Sunglasses?-Geese

Close ups

 Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jeanne supplied a bunch of great reference photos.

The reference photo was of a large group of geese. Wanted to get close, so I cut out most of the flock/gaggle and moved the one on the far right in closer to tighten the grouping.

Mostly all painting knife with a little help from the brushes in the tight spots.
I had a lot of fun playing with those "white colors".

I first covered the panel with white gesso, then applied thinned alizarin acrylic ....then painted the background using black gesso. I find that the alizarin provides a good mid value to judge added values against. And colors really "pop" against the black gesso. Hope some of that makes sense...Lol.
