Wish You Were Here-Abraham Lincoln

Close ups

Acrylic on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my submission to the DPW Challenge. The really fine artist, Raymond Logan, issued the challenge this week. There were actually 4 parts/choices to the challenge...I chose A. as follows...
A. THE BLACK AND WHITE CHALLENGE: Paint the portrait in black and white; try to maintain neutral grays with a limited palette of these three pigments: Ultramarine Blue / Burnt Umber / Titanium White.
It was an eye opener...There seemed to be a new lesson learned in every step of this challenge.

The title refers to the pathetic state of our politics of today. Somehow I don't think ol' honest Abe could be elected for ANY office today. He falls far short of the groomed for mass appeal dashing good looks that is such a high priority nowadays. And if he somehow got past that, his honesty would surely doom him to being hooted off the political stage....ahhh... but we can still at least wish he were here.

John 14:10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

  5. What an amazing portrait, the stronger for the black and white handling. Dean, your work is always gorgeous but this one gives me goose bumps. And I have to agree with your political assessments.
