Native American

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

Once again I just had fun with a lot of color, heavy paint, and texture.
I believe paintings of this nature tend to gain more viewer involvement. I know that I, for one, enjoy studying a surface full of action and mystery.

The photo was supplied by Chris for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Like the last DSFDF, this photo was black and white. I enjoyed conjuring up the color! This is a photo of Jack Big Plume Sarcee Tribe 1923 Photo courtesy the Glenbow Museum Archives.

Silo Sunset

Close ups.

5x7 oil on gessoed hardboard.
This is my submission for Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks.
This is a landscape painting of Amish country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was done from a black and white reference photo. I love to observe sunsets, so I thought I'd refer to my memory to inject some intense color.
Hope ya like it!

Backlit Cat

Close ups.

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
Felt like doing an impressionistic...or expressionistic...well, since it's a bit of both, I'll just call it a "sionistic" style of painting. :)
Lots of paint...lots of color...lots of brushwork...lots of fun! I hope y'all like it!

Sanctuary

Close ups.

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
After fighting with computers...telemarketing calls...woes and tribulations of the day, remember, it's all a part of the bigger plan. It's always nice to have a quiet spot to go...even if it's only in your mind. Hope this will help you a little today. Kick back on the beach...sip a cool drink...close your eyes, relax, and dream.... :)

Getty Up #2

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
This is a re-do of one that I posted back on April, 19th. '09. I just wasn't satisfied with the proportions of the upper part of the girl rider. It's now improved some, but I'm still trying to decide if it's "right".
Overall, I added thicker paint with more color variations...that's something I do feel was improved.

Happy Mother's Day

Close up.
Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
I hustled on this one so that I could post it today. I just wanted to dedicate a painting to honor all the Moms out there! What special people they are! I used to sing a song when I had my band that was entitled "Hall Of Fame For Mommas". It was performed by Glen Campbell years ago. The closing line was "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world". The idea of it is so very true!
Happy Mother's Day!!

This is in answer to Karin's latest challenge for the DSFDF.
Quite a different challenge! I have always admired other painters' cityscapes but felt strangely compelled to admire them from a distance. Well thanks to Karin, I feel inaugurated.
I think it helped to pre mix most of the colors so as to encourage me not to be stingy with the paint.

Maria-Basketry In Bolivia

Close ups.

Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
I first toned the surface with acrylic using burnt sienna and yel. ochre. I let it show through in selected places such as the hat. I tried for broken color in this one. I'm pretty pleased with it.
The image for this painting was graciously supplied by Liz for WDE at Wet Canvas.
This is Maria, a basketry maker at the Carrasco National Park in Bolivia.
