Longhorn Steer

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
The reference photo was supplied by Susan, the hostess for this week's WDE at Wet Canvas.
Somehow, I got started doing a cow a month on my blog. This long-horned dude will fill the bill for September.
I like the portrait effect against the dark background...it really forces the attention on the subject, and produces a huge dramatic effect.

White Pumpkins

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
Here's another one from Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks.
These are white pumpkins so they really made me search for the right colors...no typical orange here....no siree. I splashed the paint on thick and had a good ol' time. Hope ya enjoy it!

Ohio Sunset

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
First of all, thanks, Mary, for the great WDE photos.. I liked the Amish haystack from southeastern Ohio...I've seen plenty of 'em up here in northeastern OH.
I tried to set the scene in a sunset by completely relying upon my memory of past sunsets I have enjoyed. Hope this painting wil bring back a pleasant memory to you.
Hmmm...do ya think that haystack is toooo dead center? I was hoping it might work there... on account of all the counter-balancing going on with the background elements.

White Horse

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
A white subject was irresistabe to paint...it's been a while since I've done one. This is one of the famous white horses of Provence; when they are born, they are dark, and change color as they mature.
This photo was graciously supplied by Tressa for the WDE (Week End Drawing Event).

Top Artists' Directory

I don't have a new painting to post right now. There should definitely be one tomorrow.
But I had a real honor today when Kim Barker over at Top Artists' Directory sent me an email saying that I was selected as Featured Artist this week! Stop over and check the site out. Thank you, Kim. You are indeed a hard working lady.

Mule Deer Fawn

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
This is from the WDE once again. Lorna provided some beautiful photos to paint from.
I wanted to show plenty of contrasts...light & dark...soft and hard edges...low & high chroma colors...etc. All in an attempt to keep the eye from becoming bored. Hope ya like it!

Landscape-Acrylic

Acrylic on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
This is practically a nocturnal. The first glimpse of dawn.
Thought I would run something different by ya and see what you think. I may go back in and lighten this scene considerably. I was a little surprised at how dark it was when I saw it on the moniter. It's still so freshly done that my mind hasn't stepped back to weigh whether I like it or not. Let me know what you think. I appreciate honest critique.
