Steelers- - Jerome Bettis

Acrylic on 18x14 stretched canvas.
For this painting I used several reference photos plus a ton of creative artistic license. This piece is not for sale and will go to an acquaintance as a gift. Due to this, I do not think I am bending any franchise rules or infringing upon any copywrites. If you have a different opinion, please let me know..

Wolf Portrait

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
It's been a looong time since I've painted a wolf. I followed the same procedure as with the May 21st post of the cow (below). The paint is good and thick where it is intended to simulate the fur texture. I'm happy with the outcome...hope you are too.

Cute critter snoozin' out on a limb. This little iguana has the attitude I only wish i had .

Tom Turkey

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
Had a good time with this one...it was a bit tedious with the feather patterns, though. I really piled on the paint for his wattle...the red around the beak. Hope y'all enjoy it.

Cow Portrait

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
I really like how this one came out. First of all, I covered the panel with black gesso warmed with a little red acrylic. The colors come alive and "pop" from the very first strokes. Secondly, I didn't over blend the colors with brush strokes in one spot...I laid the color down and moved on. Third, in areas of accent or highlight, I placed a loaded brush stroke and let it alone.
I hope y'all like it!
This one just sold to great lady in Irvine, CA...Thanks!

Indian Rhino

This is oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel. I first covered the surface with black gesso with a few streaks of Carribean Blue acrylic blended in. I'm pretty happy with this result mainly because I decided at the last moment to put a light vibrant background around the head area. I feel it adds spark to the composition. Hope you like it.
Thanks to Anne who hosted the WDE this week at Wet Canvas. She graciously supplied the reference photo from which this painting was done.

    Autumn Barn

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
This was painted from a photo that I came across. I was taken with the vibrant color of the Fall landscape. The composition also appealed to me. Hope it all appeals to you...thanks for looking.

For some unknown reason(to me), my email link has stopped working. Gotta try to figure it out.

    Shark

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.

One thing about it....sharks raise an emotion amongst their human viewers. How perfectly they are adapted to what they must do...sheer power...primitive beauty and gracefulness...fear. They go back further than the dinosaurs...400 million years! They deserve their place on this earth without the threat of extinction at the hands of man. I say live and let live. If they stay out of my pool, I'll stay out of their ocean.

    Lab Pup

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
First, I coated the surface with black gesso tinted with pthalo blue. It's a pleasure to paint against the dark ground. I used a painting knife and brush.

I was asked by several folks what my palette was for this....Permalba white, Alizarin crimson, Ultra. blue, Yellow ochre, and Burnt sienna. The lavenders that you see were from ultr. blue & alizarin crimson. The greens are from ultra. blue & yellow ochre.

    Spring Robin

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.

Here's one of those paintings that sit around the studio that won't stop talking to you....well in this case, whistling to you. It just kept saying, "Aw, come on. Don't be so lazy. just a couple of brush strokes will brighten me up. I'm ready to leave this nest and spread my wings on eBay!"Hmmmm...maybe I don't get out enough...heh.

This is oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel. I used a lot of dark in this one in order to accentuate the light. I used a painting knife where I could, and tried to avoid unnecessary detail. The paint is applied thickly for texture where appropriate. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it.

    Blue and Gold Macaw

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
For this one I painted on top of black gesso. I like how I easily get inspiring color right away. I used both a painting knife and a brush, my goal being to simulate the texture of the feathers.
The photo of this Blue and Gold Macaw was graciously supplied by Cheryl for the WDE at Wet Canvas.
