Wolf-Work In Progress

Oil on 8x10 archival canvas panel. Very close to being done...but not quite there yet. I think the wolf itself is pretty well developed. The background and foreground need a little work. When I sleep on it and see it with fresh eyes, I might make a lot of changes.

I had a tough time getting the color right in the full size pic. The close up is nearer to being right but there's something a little off with the intensity of the chroma.

See ya tomorrow.

Dragonfly #3

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel. I first created an abstract background using acrylic paint. Most of it remains visible. I then painted the dragonfly and its enlongated shadows with oils. Lastly, I raised the values in selected areas next to the dragonfly with oils.
By the way, this is the same model who posed for my previous dragonfly paintings. ;)

    Sunrise Meadow-Landscape

Acrylic on 5x7 masonite. Thought I'd go back and revisit a style I used several years ago. This employs many layers of thinned transparent acrylic. The painting was then brought to a finish with thicker opaque lights. In this particular painting I pushed the value contrast and chroma.

    Lighthouse-Seascape

Oil on 9x12 canvas panel. In this painting I played the grayed blues against the warm colors. I liked the outcome.

    Rabbit-Animal Art

Acrylic on 12x9 mat board. Here I played with the abstract possibilties of the backround. It was fragmented into geometric shapes and the brush strokes were accentuated. I was happy with the outcome.

    Longhorn Steer-Western Art

Oil on 11x14 archival canvas panel. I'm not sure at this point if this painting is still a work in progress or a finished piece. I'll probably wind up doing quite a bit more to it. The entire sky is acrylic...I first toned the entire canvas with this reddish color. I like this color played against the colors in the steer. That's why I'm tempted to leave it as is. But then again, I may go over the sky with oils that closely match the acrylic color.......Ahhh the choices one must make....

    Grackel-Bird Art

Oil on 9x12 archival canvas panel.
This ol' bird was originally posted here on Dec. 25. I wasn't happy with the overpowering reddish background. I added variety in the background and defined the grassy foreground.

    Commissioned Dog Acrylic Painting

I didn't have anything prepared to post today, but I came across this commissioned painting done some time ago. I did this for a fellow musician. He's an excellent sax player. We played in various bands together for several years.
This artwork shows my older style. Much tighter and took much longer to complete as opposed to my faster alla prima style today.
It's in acrylic on a 18x14 canvas panel. Unavailable.

    Cockatoo-Bird Art

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
I had a lot of fun painting this one. This was one of those instances where the 'painting seems to paint itself'.... all I had to do was hold the brush!
