Geese

Oil on 9x12 canvas panel. Here, I pushed the color and accentuated the light striking the geese from above plus pushed the reflected color striking them from below.

Ducklings-Animal Art

Oil on 8x10 canvas panel. Not available. I haven't been able to post any new paintings for a few days due to finishing up a large painting and preparing for shipping.I should be able to return to my schedule soon.
In the meanwhile, here's one I thought you may enjoy seeing. I rather liked the style of it. When I look back once in awhile, I'm reminded of how my approach to painting is slowly changing. Maybe I'll use this approach in my next painting...it will be of a rooster.

Swan 2-Animal Art

This is actually a detail shot of a painting done awhile ago. But I thought it was worth posting here. It appealed to me because of the colors used on a "white" swan... plus the paint texture and handling of the background. I also liked the composition of the detail shot ( may have to do a painting based on this one). The painting was in oil on 9x12 archival canvas panel.

Grackel-Wildlife Bird Art

Oil on 9x12 archival canvas panel.
I first toned the support with acrylic paint, then painted the grackel and some of the background in oil using a painting knife and brush. Some of the original acrylic remains visible. This technique creates a beautiful contrast. The directional textured strokes of the oil color adds greatly to the surface interest.
Although these birds are considered pests by many, I have always been fascinated by those beautiful iridescent feathers. When they strut their stuff it's as if I'm watching a walking light show.
This painting is available for $35.00+s/h. Email me if interested in purchasing.

Commissioned Art: Mejiek- Collie

Here she is, the finished Mejiek painting... all but the signature. 36x24 oil on stretched canvas. I did this commission at the request of Mitch and Jeffyne who live in Santa Barbara, CA. They both are super people and a pure pleasure to work with. Mejiek was Jeffyne's treasured companion
and unfortunately the collie passed away. She is very happy with this painting and said it will help in her healing process. She has become more than a client. Through our communications she has become an inspiring friend. Thank you, Mitch and Jeffyne.

Commissioned Collie

This is a progress update on the commissioned painting "Miejek". Oil on 36x24 stretched canvas. Still some work to do, but nearing completion. There was some discussion about what sort of flowers these are. Jeffyne has explained that these are called ice-plant and bloom in early summer. Every artist at some time in their lives should have a client as great as Jeffyne...an absolute pleasure to correspond with!

Yellow Warbler

This is the first bird painting I've done in a while. I remember when I was knee high to a grasshopper, all the other kids had their baseball heroes. I hardly knew who they were talking about. My heroes were John James Audobon and Norman Rockwell. Birds and art were my 'thing' back then...guess they still are.

Miejek...A Beloved Collie

Oil on 24x36 stretched canvas.
The head detail of this painting was posted on Dec. 1. I just now have the entire canvas covered. Still a lot of work to do. Miejek will be setting in a field of lilacs. The flowers will cover most of the paws. The foreleg will be slimmed somewhat, likewise the belly. Bright sunlit lilacs will be added where appropriate, lightening the forground.

Mitch and Jeffyne are dear people, and such a pleasure to communicate with. They are extremely active in animal rescue and protection efforts. Jeffyne's love for this dog is without bounds. Miejek passed away not long ago. It is an honor to be asked to do this portrait of an animal held so dear. I hope I will be worthy and up to the task ahead.
